My husband and I are two reasonably healthy 51 year Canadians on our first trip to Israel and hoping to start on the Jesus Trail (with two nights first in Fauzi Azar Inn) likely beginning Feb 17, 18 (best!) or even 19, 20, or 21. Some of our luggage is staying with our friends in Jerusalem while we make this trip to the Galilee - so not a lot to carry!

Do you think that it is better to register for the self-guided guided tour (pre-selected accommodation with breakfast and dinner, etc.) or is it easy enough to find accommodation along the way?

Hi Dorothy,

Either option can be done, but accommodations can be a bit tricky sometimes (getting ahold of the right person, language barrier, etc.) The pre-selected accommodations used in the self-guided tour are the best options along the trail (for value and convenience) other than camping. You can call the same accommodations used in the package (their contact info is on the web and on the free map at the Fauzi Azar) but it will end up costing only slightly less than the package. It is fairly easy to find restaurants and grocery stores along the trail if you don't want to pre-book meals, but at some places (such as the hotel at Kibbutz Lavi and the B&B at Arbel) the only restaurant option is at the accommodation (unless you want to take a bus or eat a cold meal that you packed.)

The self-guided tour is customizable and convenient, but if you are ok with a little extra guesswork, going on your own can work fine. I think it would be worthwhile to at least get a quote for a package with only the services you want.

I hope that helps! Enjoy your trip!! :)

Hi Dorothy, We are 30+ couple with 8 moths old baby-girl. We are accommodated in Jerusalem at this time, hoping to do the trail, possibly starting on 18th-19th just like you. We are both experienced hikers and our little-one is well used to traveling. I thought If you were interested to start off with us and then we could continue each at our own pace but have the booking done together in order to save some cost on accommodation. I just started checking on availabilities at each check point and seem to be quite cheaper than booking for the tour. I could be extremely grateful If you were willing to share result of your own research on availabilities and prices of accommodation for the trail. If you considered starting off with us I will gladly tell you more about us. Good Luck, Petr
